6th: Begin 4-in-1 Paintings. Students will identify various color schemes by using the color wheel. Students will draw a basic still life composition and divide it into four equal parts. Then, students will add a total of four different color schemes, one for each section. 7th: Continue Abstract Complementary Paintings. Students create a pattern with a symmetrical shape and add color by choosing from pairs of complementary colors. 8th: Continue Impressionism Paintings. Students are creating designs that use relationships between colors to show highlights and shadows. Tuesday & Wednesday, 10/1,2: Complete projects. Thursday 10/3: 6th: Begin Pop Art Projects. Students will choose two images representing popular culture and add color, shape and pattern to complete the image in the pop art style. 7th: Begin Analogous Animal Paintings. Students will choose to draw one animal and then select three adjacent colors from the color wheel (analogous color scheme) and complete their painting. 8th: Begin Abstract Paintings. Students will view examples of abstract artwork that show the use of repetition, shape and variations of color. Students will choose an image to create a similar design. Friday 10/4: Continue projects. RtI: Students will begin practicing silhouette designs by using their initials. Students will cute out designs of their initials in construction paper and create various designs to fill in the stencil. 6th grade
Monday: Students will learn about the differences between Bystanders and Upstanders and how to help a friend who is being bullied in a positive way. Tuesday: Students are going to participate in an activity and then perform an act of kindness for someone at Lombard. Wednesday: Students are going to start making a chain of reaction (Rachel’s Challenge). Thursday: Introduction to the Reproductive Unit. Expectations and overview. Friday: Students will learn about the male reproductive system. 7th grade Monday: In class activity. Students will practice reading food labels. Tuesday: Students will learn about obesity; what it is, risk associated with it and causes. Students will learn about portions and see how they have changed throughout the years. Wednesday: In class activity (Fast food day). Thursday: Students will watch a shortened, 8 minute clip, of the movie SuperSize me and then complete a short writing prompt over it. Friday: Students will learn about healthier options they could choose from when eating out and tips to help with portion control. 8th grade Monday: Students will continue to work on their drug project (computer lab). Tuesday: Work on and finish drug project (in Library). Wednesday: Students will present their drug presentations to the class. Thursday: Introduction to sexuality unit. Students will receive a “crash course” lesson on female and male anatomy. Friday: Students will learn about Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) RTI: M/F= Assisting with Mrs. Lester’s Class T/W/TH= Reading the book, Flush Monday, 9/23: 6th Grade: Begin Aerial Paintings. Students will learn about the purpose of aerial photography and warm and cool color schemes. Next, students will create a "stencil" of a skyline for their painting. By tracing this stencil on their canvas, students create the image of a receding skyline. Students will then use their knowledge of warm and cool color schemes to paint the design. 7th Grade: Continue Op Art Drawings. 8th Grade: Complete Monochromatic Paintings Tuesday 9/24: 6th Grade: Continue Aerial Paintings. 7th Grade: Complete Op Art Drawings 8th Grade: Begin Impressonism Paintings. Students will compare and contrast the styles of Neoclassicism (preceding Impressionism) and Impressionism. Using a color wheel, students will observe the different combinations artists used for the Impressionist style. Next, students will design a canvas with a drawing of an object and paint it using similar color combinations like Impressionism to show changes and effects of light. Wednesday, 9/25: 6th Grade: Continue Aerial Paintings 7th Grade: Begin Abstract Paintings. Students will compare and contract abstract and realistic artwork and share their ideas about the unique challenges for creating abstract artwork. Next, students will brainstorm a design process for their artwork by viewing an example of abstract art. Monday: Begin Violence Prevention Unit. Students will learn about the different forms of bullying and communication styles. Tuesday:Students will learn about cyber bullying. Wednesday: Students will begin watching the movie, BULLY. Thursday: Students will finish the movie, BULLY today in class and then complete a reflection over it. Friday: No Class (6thgrade field trip) 7th grade Monday: Mental HealthTest Tuesday: Begin Nutrition Unit. Wednesday: Students will learn about the information that is required to be on every foodlabel (basic nutrition information). Thursday: Students will learn about the information that is required to be on every food label (basic nutrition information). Friday:Students will learn about sugar and its many forms. 8th grade Monday:Students will learn about the three drugs that are commonly associated with “date rape”.Students will learn what these drugs do, what they look like, how to protect themselves, and what they should do if they suspect someone they know is ever been slipped one of these drugs. Tuesday: Review for Drug Unit Test. Wednesday: Drug Unit Test. Thursday: Students will receive their drug tests back and then learn the requirements for their drug project. Friday: Students will begin to work on their drug project (computer lab). 6th grade RTI: M/F= Assisting with Mrs. Lester’s advisory T/W/TH= Reading the book, FLUSH, with my RTI 6th grade will be finishing their pillows this week, probably by Tuesday. As each one finishes their pillows, I will teach them how to sew on buttons.

6th Grade: Continue and Complete Abstract Paintings, begin Monochromatic Paintings 7th Grade: Begin Still Life Shoe Drawings. Students will design a composition with two worn shoes showing various shapes and values. Students will add detail and values with combinations of colored pencil and ebony pencil. 8th Grade: Continue Monochromatic Monogram Paintings Wednesday - Friday 9/18-20: 6th Grade: Begin Aerial Paintings. Students will observe the differences and purposes of different compositions and photographs. Next, students create a stencil for a skyline shape and repeat the shape to fill the space of their painting. Students will then observe the differences of warm and cool colors according to a color wheel and also learn some basic ideas of color theory about these colors. Students will then arrange the colors in a progression of warm to cool colors along their skyline shapes. 7th Grade: Begin Op Art Projects. Students will observe the ways to manipulate line and shape to create visual effects in artwork. Students will then begin their own projects to create these effects. 8th Grade: Begin Impressionism Paintings. Students will observe the differences of the Impressionism style and other, preceding classical styles of art. Tuesday: Students will learn about suicide (signs of suicide and what they could do if they suspect a friend is suicidal). Wednesday: Students will learn about suicide (signs of suicide and what they could do if they suspect a friend is suicidal). Thursday: Students will begin to read an excerpt from the book, Damage. While reading the short excerpt, students will identify warning signs the main character gives off that he is depressed or suicidal. Friday: Review for test 8th grade Monday: Begin drug unit! Tuesday: Students will learn about prescription and over-the-counter drugs. Wednesday: Students will learn about drug testing. Thursday: Students will participate in an in-class activity. Students will learn about marijuana. Friday: Students will review what they learned the previous class and complete a writing prompt over marijuana. 6th grade RTI M/F= Assist with Mrs. Lester’s advisory T/W/TH= Reading RTI 6th grade will be picking out their pillow fabric and beginning to sew.
7th and 8th grade will finish hand sewing and review the parts of the sewing machine, with a quiz to follow. If time allows they will begin using the machines. Some 8th graders still need to bring in their fabric for their projects. Please have it at school no later than Monday, Sept. 23rd. If you wear an ex small, small, or medium, bring in 2 3/4 yards of fabric. If you are a large or ex large, bring in 3 yards of fabric. Everyone needs a package of 1/2 elastic. |
