6th: Students will be learning about the long-term effects of tobacco.
7th: Portion Distortion Day.
8th: Students will read a short article on brain development and identify ways in which the brain
is still developing during adolescence. After students finish the article, they will complete a writing prompt on why the drinking age is 21 (using information from the article they read to support their reasoning).
Tuesday:
6th: Students will be learning about secondhand smoke (the different types and dangers).
7th: Students will be learning about obesity (prevalence, contributing factors, and risks associated).
8th: Students will begin to read Ch. 2 of the book, Izzy Willy Nilly.
Wednesday:
6th: Students will be learning about smokeless tobacco. *Students will get to look at a
touch the smokeless tobacco mouth model.
7th: In class activity (Fast Food Day). Students will investigate the fat content of common fast food meals.
8th: Students will finish reading Ch. 2 of the book, Izzy Willy Nilly, and will complete the w/s.
Thursday:
6th: In class activity. Short tobacco quiz tomorrow, STUDY!
7th: Students will begin to watch the movie, Super Size Me.
8th: Students will identify the social norms held by themselves and fellow classmates regarding alcohol usage.
Friday:
6th: Tobacco vocabulary quiz. Tobacco and advertising day!
7th: Students will finish the movie, Super Size Me and then complete the Super Size Me writing prompt.
8th: (All 8th grade will be on a field trip)
