6th: Students will begin to create masks. First, students will view examples of masks from different cultures and serving various purposes. Students will identify the tools of design that are used to help serve the purposes of the masks. Next, students will begin constructing their masks with plaster and then paint the surface with acrylic paint.
7th: Students will begin using clay to construct name sculptures. This project will give students the opportunity to learn the slip and score process and the carving and embossing processes of creating artwork in clay. Students will paint their sculptures when they are finished with the construction process.
8th: Students will begin creating mandalas. First, students will learn about the origin and purpose of mandalas according to Buddhism. Next, students will choose a goal for themselves and create a design reflecting the pursuit of that goal according to the designs of a mandala.
