6th grade
Tuesday: Students will learn about the different types of smoke and the many dangers of secondhand smoke.
Wednesday: Students will learn about smokeless tobacco, what it is and the dangers of using it.
Thursday: Students will learn about and practice using various refusal skill techniques they could use if someone asked to use a tobacco product.
Friday: Review for test! Test will be on Monday!
7th grade
Tuesday: Students will learn about Bulimia (what it is, signs and symptoms, and damaging effects)
Wednesday: Students will learn about boys and eating disorders. Students will read the article, “The Lost Boys” and complete a reflection.
Thursday: Students will complete Connection Circles that will help them compare and contrast anorexia and bulimia.
Friday: Students will practice identifying signs/symptoms of an eating disorder and then learn how they could help a friend if they suspected they had an eating disorder.
8th grade
Tuesday: Students will read Ch. 2 from the book, Izzy Willy Nilly, and complete a brief reflection over it in class.
Wednesday: Students will learn about the long-term effects of alcohol.
Thursday: *Introduce Extra Credit Option*. After introducing the EC option, students will briefly review the long term effects of alcohol and then begin watching a short intervention episode that will allow them to practice identifying the signs of alcoholism.
Friday: Students will finish watching the Intervention episode. Once episode is over, students will turn in their Intervention reflection sheet, and begin working on their alcohol study guide.
