Parents and community members are encouraged to read Superintendent Arthur's message regarding support for the Illinois School Funding Reform Act of 2104, also known as Senate Bill 16 or SB16. The Galesburg Community Unit School District #205 School Board and administration encourages you to voice your support of this bill, which has already been approved by the Illinois Senate, by contacting your State Representative:
This week has been wonderful, exciting, and overwhelming :)
It was bizarre seeing large groups of kids doing homework by choice before school because they were able to utilize their chromebooks. In addition, walking into classrooms and seeing so many kids engaged while they use this resources has been awesome. I truly think these chromebooks are one of the greatest things to ever happen here at Lombard, and I am thrilled to be a part of this. There are a lot of reasons this is a great school. However, one of the main reasons is the amount of school spirit that I see here every day from both staff and students. Personally, I've never seen a school that constantly has so many people wearing Lombard shirts to represent their pride. It really is an awesome thing that I will never take for granted. I am proud to be a Zephyr!
Also, please make sure you do your best to be at the open house Monday night beginning at 5:30pm. The first 30 minutes will be for you and your child to visit teacher's in their classrooms. Then at about 6pm I will use our intercom system to ask all families to come to our auditorium for a welcome back presentation from me with information on our chromebook initiative. We are lombard! The 2014-2015 District #205 Calendar has been posted. Click here to learn more:
Student pictures will be taken Monday, September 22 during the day. Also, the open house will be on this evening from 5:30 until 7pm.
I'm excited because the students will all be given their chromebooks soon. All of them have arrived and are currently being sorted. Please do your best to attend our parent open house on September 22. We will begin at 5:30 and end our evening in the auditorium with a presentation on this chromebook implementation. This is exciting and will be a wonderful opportunity for Lombard and all of our students.
Also make sure to follow us on twitter! Great way to stay up to date with everything that is going on here! I continue to be absolutely blown away with the work ethic and passion of this entire staff. I have been here late every night this week working, and there has always been others teachers in this building putting in a late night, too. It's been wonderful having the kids back and its been so much fun getting to know them.
Beginning this week we are going to start having a weekly video update from 8th graders on current events here at the school. Check it out. It is found within the weekly update tab on the top of the web page. Some of the pics below are the reasons this is the greatest school in the world! It is almost 6pm as I am writing this, and it doesn't seem possible that this first day should be done already. My first day as a Zephyr went by extremely quickly, but it was definitely memorable. I can't say enough how lucky I feel to be here at Lombard. The staff and students are just wonderful.
I consider being a part of this school and community a privilege, and it is something I will never take for granted! We spent time today updating and redoing our school homepage. I am extremely proud of how it turned out and the positive feedback that I have received already! I am really excited about our new school twitter account, too. I am planning on us utilizing this a lot as not only a communication tool, but to also display all of the cool things that happen here at Lombard. Please follow us @Lombard205 #wearelombard
I also want to point out some of the hard work a few of my teachers have done over the summer preparing their classrooms. Nice job Mrs. Sandstrom and Mrs. Scoggins! Check out the photos below. |
